Dan Boyarski Muriel Cooper Prize Recipient
|
Lauralee Alben was chosen as the first recipient of the prestigious Muriel
Cooper Prize, established by the Design Management Institute to recognize
individuals on the basis of original thinking, future promise and pioneering
work involving design and technology. The recipient of the Prize has the
honor of presenting the Muriel Cooper Memorial Lecture at DMI's annual
Digital Conference. Lauralee launched the series in May 1997 with her
lecture, "At the heart of interaction design." As Earl Powell, DMI's
director wrote, " Her extraordinary presentation was followed by a stunned
silence; she had, indeed, deeply touched the audience's soul and intellect."
Lauralee has been appointed a Muriel Cooper Fellow and has been given a
three-year membership in the Design Management Institute.
Muriel Cooper was the cofounder of the Visible Language Workshop at the MIT
Media Lab, as well as a superb teacher, mentor, and pioneer in the field.
Muriel would often talk about her "profound disdain for answers...we do a
lot of groping here. I don't think there are answers. I think there are
thoughts." The Design Management Institute hopes Muriel Cooper Prize will be
a lasting tribute to Muriel and will exemplify this spirit of exploration.
